CIS In-House Activities

Many of our workshops are in-house, where members teach each other new skills and techniques.  In-house workshops are free of charge to CIS Activity Group members.  The instructors, CIS members, volunteer their time and teach a new technique through creation of designated projects.  The CIS provides the materials and the finished item is displayed for sale at our gift shop or donated, depending on the purpose of the project. If the project chosen involves many pieces, these individual pieces are completed by the “learners”, who then take home this new learned skill. Often the project then is finalized and completed by the Sizzling Sewers.

Some of our in-house projects included: sewing cozy fabric slippers, tote and travel bags, seat cushions, Christmas stockings, bowtie blanket, seat belt “cozy”, pillowcases, decorator art cushions, heirloom embroidery on “angel dresses”. (see Sizzling Sewers section).

Other workshops included:  Teddy Bear workshop, Chenille workshop, Soap making workshop, Leaf Printing Workshop, Needle and Wet wool felting, Winter Flower Arranging workshop, a demonstration of the Art of Doukhobor Shawl Painting and Fringing and machine embroidery quilt blocks that were assembled by the Sizzling Sewers.
